Keeping my sporting gear safe

About Me

Keeping my sporting gear safe

When my wife moved in she told me I needed to throw out the stuff in my spare room! I told her there was no way I was throwing out my mountain bike, snowboards, golf clubs... and she told me I needed to get a storage unit. Now I've got my sporting gear stored out of her sight, and I convinced her to put her flowery couch in the unit as well. Now I've got someone to stash all of my impulse buys - I've just got store it all so she never realises how much stuff we have stashed in there!

2 Common Errors People Make When They Use Drive-Up Self-Storage facilities

Here are two common errors people tend to make when they use drive-up self-storage facilities.

They park their vehicles within inches of their storage unit when they need to put a large load of items inside of it

One error users of self-storage facilities make is parking their vehicle very close (i.e., within inches of) the door to their unit when they need to put a large load of items into it. Those who do this usually do so because they want to avoid having to carry their numerous items for anything more than a few seconds.

However, by not leaving a few feet of space between their vehicle and the door to their unit, they might make this task harder for themselves. For example, when a person needs to put a lot of items into their unit, it can be helpful for them to have some space just outside their unit to leave some of their boxes or large equipment, whilst they are reconfiguring the boxes that are already in the unit and working out what layout would be the safest and most convenient. Doing this can give them extra space inside to walk around and readjust certain items' positions before they fully unload the latest large batch of objects into the unit. If there's no space outside the unit because their vehicle is right next to it, they won't be able to do this, and the process of repositioning the unit's contents and organising everything will be that much more challenging.

Not investing in a foldable hand trolley for their trips to their unit

One of the numerous perks of drive-up self-storage units is that the distance between their vehicles and their units is very small, which means that they don't have to lug their items across relatively long distances. However, the error some people make is assuming that this feature of this type of storage unit means that they would have no use for a foldable hand trolley in the way that those who rent standard storage units would. However, this portable and inexpensive item could still prove useful for a person with a drive-up storage unit.

It could, for example, allow them to take three or four heavy boxes, stacked on top of each other, out of their unit at once, instead of having to carry each box out one by one, as they might need to if they didn't have this trolley. This would then allow them to get in and out of their unit very quickly. This is important to note, as the type of people who tend to opt for drive-up storage units are those who need quick access to their units because they don't have much time to spend putting things into or taking their items out of these units.
